Epson industry leading F-Series Dye Sublimation Printers

Epson Surecolor F-Series have reinvented the dye sublimation transfer printer. These new units are 100% Epson hardware, firmware, inks, transfer paper, and most importantly, 100% Epson service and support. The printers are ideal for transferring high-end photo images to metal plates, cloth/soft goods, plastic materials for the outdoor recreation industry, as well as a myriad of other substrates for production and marketing purposes. Most large-format dye sub printers have been various older model aqueous printers with a variety of third party ink gunk run through them. EcoShield Inkjet Coating Tips from Premiere Imaging
Overnight drying and ventilation is recommended and is the key. All inkjet media should have time (24hrs) to “out-gas” before applying ECO, laminating, framing behind glass, etc.

After the print comes off the printer, you don’t want to handle it too much. Lay it flat in a clean environment and leave it alone for at least a few hours (out of sunlight). The way to increase the out-gassing is to set up some fans and allow for really good ventilation, not just circulating but exhaust ventilation and dropping the humidity . . . which is the complete opposite when printing, coating and stretching.
If you ever find yourself in a place where you need a print quickly, then you can reduce the time to 6 hours but that would require the above mentioned.

When printing, coating and stretching, you want to keep the humidity above 40% and temperature above 60F. Additionally, winter is upon us and it’s very important to make sure the humidity and temp are up when coating, and especially when stretching.
COLD + DRY = CRACKING HUMIDITY + WARMTH = NO CRACKING

You can stretch canvas 3 hours after the last coat has cleared with ECO Print Shield. As far as the “Instant Dry” description you see on a lot of media, what that means is you can handle the print right off the printer without smearing the inks, but it has nothing to do with out-gassing. More at:

Inkjet Tips and Tricks

Customers who have had their printer for awhile often tell us they are now getting some marks on their prints, especially on the media edges. This is normally caused by junk ink that has accumulated on the underside of the head.
The simple solution is to raise the head height a notch. From the printer front panel, go to Menu/PrinterSetup/Platen Gap and change it from Standard to Wide. This will take care of the issue for quite awhile. Down the road, you can do a simple clean of the head.

freeze your credit !

Our infrequent community service message.
Identity theft is a nightmare, it can take many hundreds of hours to unwind, and can cause big $$ loss, notwithstanding being a big pain in the bum. You can do something about this. (All state attorney generals recommend your doing this. Not surprisingly, you don't hear about much from credit bureaus because those characters make big money on credit reports.)
90% of identity theft requires a credit report. If you freeze your credit, the bad guys cannot pull off an ID theft through acquiring phony credit cards, buying houses/cars in your name, or a myriad of other scams. Google the subject and you will learn all about it. Kathy and I froze our credit years ago and are glad we did - there is no downside. If you need to temporarily unfreeze your credit for a day, say when financing a car, it is simple. Just just call Transunion (they unfreeze at no charge vs the other two), enter your PIN code and you are all set.

To implement, send a standard letter to the three major credit reporting bureaus - Equifax, Experian, and Transunion, along with a check for their $10 or $15 fee. Both you and spouse need to have the credit frozen. To save you some work, JVH would be happy to provide the Word letters that we used as a template. Just drop us note and we will send those three letters to you, of course without our personal data.
If you have children, consider doing this for them also. Children with social security numbers have become a new target for identity theft scumbags. Again, Google the subject to make an informed decision.
While on the subject, get a locking mailbox if you don't already. Stolen mail is a major source of ID theft and you can completely eliminate that. Just do it.

JVH Digital Festival in September

We are thinking of holding a 2015 JVH Digital Festival the last week of this coming September. We have had a lot requests and probably will cave in and hold the event again The past ten Festivals have been very rewarding and have featured wonderful industry speakers and valuable information. As many of our customers know, this free educational event brings high value to attendees and anyone interested in large-format digital printing.

The associated free Print Contest is also a lot of fun, notwithstanding showcasing some stunning and varied images. The Contest rules are essentially "there are no rules", so you never know what you are going to see, although we do have a few guidelines.
